About Steve Agnew
Superb, gorgeous and perfect are just some of the words used by musicians to describe Steve Agnew's instruments. With good reason; the clarity of sound, immaculate finish and simple lines of his instruments work together to produce distinctive guitars, mandolins, bouzoukis and mandolas that once played are irresistible. Steve is one of those rare individuals who has the talent to excel in what he likes doing best. He spent much of his professional life working in wood; a qualified cabinet maker who moved onto instrument making when his passion for perfection, fine detail and craftsmanship was no longer fulfilled by the increasingly mechanised world of furniture making. Building on his cabinet-making skills, Steve went back to school. He studied instrument making under David Lim at Manchester College of Art and Technology where he achieved distinctions in his studies. He has never looked back. Steve's vision is to make premium quality hand-made instruments at a price that most can afford. He selects his materials carefully, making and finishing every instrument personally. Steve's commitment to his instruments does not stop with the making. Steve will set up, service, and make minor adjustments to suit the individual player. He provides extensive after-sales advice about care and maintenance but be warned he loves talking about instruments !
